ELMSFORD, N.Y. (April 1, 2010) - USGAnew Awards Foundation Grants

The USGA awarded the MGA Foundation three program grants for 2010 to help support The First Tee of Metropolitan New York. A total of $35,000 will be used to help with the cost of golf instruction, golf course and driving range access, and transportation for participants. Since 1996, the USGA has provided nearly $1,000,000 in support of the many programs conducted by the MGA Foundation.

Children of National Guardsmen Offered Free First Tee Opportunity

The First Tee of Metropolitan New York is kicking off a new initiative in 2010 by offering free golf instruction and life skills education to children of National Guardsmen and Reservists. This begins a two-year agreement between The First Tee, TFTMNY and the United States Department of Defense. The program aims to positively impact children of Guardsmen and Reservists that reside in the tri-state area.

 

Participating locations include Mosholu Golf Club in the Bronx, N.Y., Harlem Golf Academy, Eisenhower Park on Long Island, Fairchild Wheeler Golf Course in Bridgeport, Conn., Weequahic Park in Newark, N.J., Brooklyn Golf Center, Plainfield West Nine in Plainfield, N.J., Gull Haven Golf Course in Central Islip, N.Y., and Chelsea Piers in Manhattan. Become a Young Benefactor

Come join fellow young professionals on Thursday, April 8,  as The First Tee of Met N.Y. Young Benefactor’s gather together for their first event of 2010. The event is set to be hosted by St. Andrews Restaurant in N.Y.C., and will feature many fantastic silent auction prizes ranging from rounds of golf to signed memorabilia by Arnold Palmer and other pro golfers.

Created in 2009, the Young Benefactors is a network of active young professionals dedicated to the mission of The First Tee of Metropolitan New York. The group supports the First Tee Met N.Y. by conducting fundraising events and community and volunteer efforts to raise local awareness about the First Tee. 2010 events include an evening at St. Andrews Restaurant in N.Y.C., Chelsea Piers driving range, and during the PGA Tour’s Barclays tournament at Ridgewood Country Club in Paramus, N.J. First Tee Programming Kicks off at Mohansic

The First Tee of Metropolitan New York (TFTMNY) is now offering programming in upper Westchester County at Mohansic Golf Course in Yorktown Heights, N.Y. In association with the Yorktown Athletic Club, over 600 young people will be exposed to the golf and life skills training conducted at the facility. New Partnership with Harlem Golf Academy

Starting this year, the MGA Foundation and The First Tee of Metropolitan New York will partner with the Harlem Golf Academy to provide First Tee golf and life skill experiences to young people in Harlem. The Harlem Golf Academy currently operates out of the 143rd street armory and will be reaching out to youngsters with little or no past involvement with the game of golf. The MGA Foundation has been awarded a USGA Program Grant for $15,000 to support this initiative.

Ryan Porter Named to Price Waterhouse Coopers Executive Forum

Ryan Porter, a First Tee participant out of the First Tee Nassau County and a First Tee Scholar, has been selected by Price Waterhouse Coopers to attend the 2010 Executive Business Forum in Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla. Porter, a freshman at Villanova, will attend the Forum May 8 & 9, during The Players Championship at TPC Sawgrass. The weekend will offer attendees the opportunity to discuss their First Tee experiences as well as network with these successful buiness executives.
