Entry Deadline for MGA/MetLife Public Links is May 27
May 22, 2009 — Public golfers across the Met Area still have a chance to enter the 2009 MGA/MetLife Public Links Championship, one of the MGA’s oldest and most prestigious events. The entry deadline is Wednesday, May 27, and the 36-hole championship will be played Tuesday, July 7 at the Links at Shirley in Shirley, N.Y. Any golfer who doesn’t have private club privileges and whose USGA Handicap Index is 8.0 or lower is eligible to enter. The MGA/MetLife Public Links features a field of the top public links players in the Met Area and is always a fun and exciting tournament experience.
The Links at Shirley opened for play in May of 2000. The course features extensive teeing grounds and wide fairways and incorporates such interesting architectural features as collection areas, cross bunkers in fairways, waste areas, and several water hazards. The course is ready for the stars of the Met Area public links scene to test their games on the windswept fairways and undulating greens of one of the top public courses on Long Island.
The championship will be preceded by five sectional qualifying rounds conducted throughout the Met Area. The first qualifying round will be played at LaTourette GC on June 9, followed by Stony Ford GC in Montgomery, N.Y., on June 10 and Mohansic GC in Yorktown Heights, N.Y., on June 11. The last two qualifying rounds will be played at Berkshire Valley GC in Oak Ridge, N.J., on June 16 and at Tall Grass GC in Shoreham, N.Y., on June 25.
