Elmsford, N.Y. (January 5, 2009) - Congratulations to Sumit Khetan and Ryan Porter from The First Tee of Nassau County for being designated as The First Tee Scholars Class of 2009. Special recognition goes to Lieneke Matte for her efforts in applying.

Both Sumit and Ryan have applied to New York University. Sumit has been accepted to NYU as an early decision applicant and is eligible for the Lew Rudin/First Tee Scholarship. The recipient is announced in May after a selection committee reviews all applications.

Ryan Porter has also been selected as the HBO Sports Scholarship recipient. His total award is $10,000 and will receive $2,500 per year for his undergraduate career. The scholarship was awarded based on his exceptional academic and athletic credentials as well as his strong leadership skills.

All of these students have exhibited outstanding academic performances and shown exemplary leadership and dedication to their First Tee sites. Congratulations to each of these participants for their achievements and for their continued success as they matriculate towards college.
