A Presidential Donation
ELMSFORD, N.Y. - Imagine knocking on the door of a former President of the United States to see if he would be willing to donate a set of golf clubs. Well, that’s exactly what Isabel Greenberg did when she decided that she wanted to help The First Tee of Metropolitan New York as her community service requirement. This middle school Westchester resident organized and ran a golf club collection, bake sale and money donation drive in the town of Chappaqua. She went to friends, area residents and businesses and one very well known Chappaqua resident. Isabel collected many clubs which will be distributed to children at The First Tee of Metropolitan New York facility at Mosholu Golf Course in the Bronx, as well as over $1,600 in donations. The most interesting donation was a set of Callaway irons donated by former President William Jefferson Clinton. By using perseverance, one of The First Tee’s Nine Core Values, Isabel finally got to meet with President Clinton at his house to pick up the clubs and received a letter of authenticity. This experience was a wonderful example of how one young girl’s effort and determination can affect the lives of many others. All of us at The First Tee of Metropolitan New York wish to thank Isabel, the Greenberg Family, and all those kind people who donated to our youth development organization.
