Fay, Wilson Honored at MGA Annual DInner
December 3, 2009 – USGA Executive Director David B. Fay and Cameron Wilson of Shorehaven Golf Club were honored at the Metropolitan Golf Association Annual Meeting and Dinner on December 2 at Westchester Country Club in Harrison, N.Y. Fay received the 2009 MGA Distinguished Service Award, the Association’s highest honor, and Wilson received the 2009 MGA Jerry Courville Sr. Player of the Year Award.
Fay, who has been with the USGA since 1978 and executive director for 20 years, is recognized throughout the world as one of the foremost authorities on golf. Under his leadership, the USGA, and by extent the entire golf industry, reached new heights of popularity and growth. He grew up in Tuxedo Park, N.Y., and learned the game as a caddie at the Tuxedo Club and as a regular player at the local nine-hole municipal track, Central Valley. Fay has been instrumental in every major service initiative the USGA has undertaken. He oversaw the creation of the USGA Foundation and the For the Good of the Game Grants initiative, which challenged the nation’s golf organizations to “open up the game” and create programs that would make golf more accessible. Along the way, he notched victories at the Carter Cup-MGA Junior Stroke Play Championship and the Met Amateur, where at 16 he became the youngest winner in that event’s 107-year history. Wilson also won the Bergen County Amateur, the Boff Invitational and was a quarterfinalist at the U.S. Junior Amateur Championship. For more information on Wilson’s 2009 campaign, please click here.
