Inside the Rules
Every month former MGA Senior Director of Rules and Competitions Gene Westmoreland will answer one question posed by the readers of the MGA e-Revision Newsletter (click here to sign up). Bill from Rockland County asked Gene the following Rules question:
Q: Can another player mark my ball on the green?
Gene responds:
See Rule 20-1. A ball may be lifted by the player, his partner(s) or any person authorized by the player. In match play if your opponent were to lift your ball without your authorization he would incur a one stroke penalty. In stroke play if a fellow competitor were to lift your ball without authorization there would be no penalty. The ball must be replaced in both match and stroke play.
