MGA/METLIFE YOUTH CLINIC AT USGA GOLF HOUSE
ELMSFORD, N.Y. (July 16, 2007) - MetLife and the MGA Foundation conducted the first MGA/MetLife Youth Clinic of the 2007 season on Thursday, July 12 at USGA Headquarters in Far Hills, New Jersey. A group of 52 students from Newark Youth Golf, Renaissance Junior Golf and the First Tee of Essex County at Weequahic Park were treated to a tour of the USGA’s Equipment Testing Center and an afternoon clinic on the front lawn of Golf House. MetLife’s beloved mascot, Snoopy, joined the students for the day, which also included a presentation of historic artifacts from golf’s past, including the club used by astronaut Alan Shepard during his mission to the moon.
The MGA and MetLife enjoy a long standing partnership which extends back more than 25 years and involves sponsorship of eight MGA Championships and our Calendar of Competitions. In 2004, that partnership was expanded to include three MGA Foundation youth clinics as part of the company’s growing involvement with diversity initiatives. These clinics have become an important part of the MGA Foundation’s youth-oriented programming and, with the help of our frequent guest Snoopy, have become very popular with Met Area youth groups which are invited for a day of instruction, games and Life Skills training.
This clinic was the first in a series of three for the 2007 season. The next clinic in the series will take place on Thursday, August 23 at The Meadow Brook Club in Jericho, N.Y., on the final day of the Met Open Championship, sponsored by MetLife.
