HOFFMAN, PASTORE LEAD FIELD INTO MET JUNIOR

ELMSFORD, N.Y. (July 11, 2007) – Accomplished New Jersey junior Morgan Hoffman, the 2005 Carter Cup champion, along with defending Met Junior championDavid Pastore of Greenwich, Conn., lead a talented field of 64 outstanding Met Area junior players when the 90th Met Junior Championship, sponsored by MetLife, comes to Brooklawn Country Club in Fairfield, Conn., July 17 through 19. Pastore seeks to become the first repeat Junior champion in 20 years (Adam Spring in 1986-’87), but he’ll have to contend with a deep field of players, several of whom have competed in USGA and AJGA events around the country. The Met Junior is sponsored by MetLife for the 23rd consecutive year.

The Met Junior consists of three consecutive days of match play. It is a test of mental as well as physical endurance, as the champion will have survived two 18-hole matches each day. The field is whittled down from 64 to 16 after the first day, and there are traditionally some surprising results. Before taking the course for the first round matches, the players will have the opportunity to test the 6,617-yard, A.W. Tillinghast layout on Monday, July 16, when the MGA/MetLife Pro-Junior is held for the 40th time. Each Junior entrant will team up with a PGA professional in a better-ball competition.

While many eyes will be on Hoffman and Pastore, there are a host of other challengers who are poised to win a Met Junior. The 2005 champion, Gene Yang, is back in the field this year after missing the 2006 Met Junior Championship at the Apawamis Club. Also looking to contend are Timothy Pawul of East Setauket, N.Y., who played in the 2006 U.S. Junior Championship; Mark Costanza, the 2003 MGA/MetLife Boys champion, and Curtis Loop, a 2006 MGA/MetLife Boys finalist who shot a 66 in sectional qualifying for this year’s Met Junior.

The MGA Junior Championship is open to all male golfers, not yet 18, who are accredited students at schools in the MGA district. Complete coverage of the Met Junior Championship will be available at www.mgagolf.org, where you can also find frequent scoring updates for each match and Live Scoring for the semifinals and finals provided by the USGA’s TPP Real Time scoring system.
