THE FIRST TEE AT MOSHOLU HOSTS U.S. OPEN JUNIOR GOLF DAY
BRONX, N.Y. (June 13, 2006) - Mosholu Golf Course in the Bronx, N.Y., site of The First Tee of Metropolitan NY, hosted the 2006 U.S. Open Junior Day on Tuesday, June 13th. The First Tee of Metropolitan NY is jointly operated by the MGA Foundation and Metropolitan PGA and is one of four First Tee sites located throughout the Metropolitan Area. Mosholu and all of The First Tee facilities in the Met Area have been generously supported by the USGA Grants Program.
More than 250 youngsters representing USGA-supported junior golf programs from throughout the Metropolitan Area and the Northeast attended the event on Tuesday. Guest speakers included USGA President Walter Driver, USGA Secretary Missy Crisp, NYC Parks Commissioner Adrian Benape and USGA Grants Committee Chairman James Bunch. The First Tee of Metropolitan NY was presented with a check from USGA for $126,500.00 in support of their youth programs.
Activities for the youngsters in attendance included an exhibition by trick-shot artist Dennis Walters, The Golf Channel’s Drive, Putt and Chip competition, complimentary lunch and a free ticket to Winged Foot Golf Club to watch the second day of U. S. Open practice rounds.
The U.S. Open Junior Day is one of the most important preview events of U.S. Open week – the next Tiger Woods - or Michelle Wie - could be there! Media attendance is welcome.
