ASMUNDSON TEAM FROM STANWICH CAPTURES MGA FATHER & SON GROSS TITLE
SCARSDALE, N.Y. (August 14, 2006) – William and Philip Asmundson from Stanwich finished with a five-under-par 65 today to outlast 57 other teams and win the 56th MGA Father & Son (Gross) Championship at Sunningdale Country Club in Scarsdale, N.Y. Kieran and Mark Duffy of Sleepy Hollow carded a two-under-par 68 to finish second in the 18-hole championship played under a Pinehurst scoring format.
Hank and Ryan Schinman of Green Brook finished in third place with a one-under-par 69. Three teams, Kenneth and Conor Malloy of Westchester, Matt and Kerry Mucci of Montclair, and Chris and Devin Taylor of Scarsdale, finished in fourth place with even-par 70s.
The Asmundson team also finished first in the net portion of this event, with a net 63. The Schinman team carded a net 64 to finish one-shot back. However, the Schinmans received the first-place prize because a team can only win one prize.
All teams played under the Pinehurst scoring format: Both players hit drives, then each plays a second shot with the other’s ball. After the second shot, a choice is made regarding the ball with which the hole will be completed. Alternate shots are then continued into the hole. On par-three holes, the choice must be made after the tee shots.
