BRADY DUO FROM ASH BROOK CAPTURES FATHER & SON NET TITLE
COLONIA, N.J. (August 17, 2006) – Kevin Brady and Kevin Brady Jr. from Ash Brook carded a net score of eight-under-par 65 today to win the 17th MGA Father & Son Net Championship at Colonia Country Club in Colonia, New Jersey. The Bradys shot a gross score of 73, and their combined handicap of 8 yielded them the winning score. They beat out 50 other father-son teams from across the Met Area.
Finishing second to the Bradys were Joe and Joseph Labbadia of the Hubbard Heights Men’s Club in Stamford, Connecticut. The Labbadias shot a net 67. One stroke behind them were Stanley and Evan Friedman, of Dellwood and Oyster Bay, respectively. The Friedmans shot a net 68.
Rounding out the top five were the Shore View team of Andrew Foppiano and Andrew Jr., who shot a net 69, and Mark and Erik Gershwind of Fresh Meadow, who carded a net 70.
By virtue of their 73, the Brady team also finished tied for first in the gross portion of this event. However, the Gershwind team, who also shot a gross 73, will receive the first-place gross prize, because a team can only win first place in one of the two divisions. Finishing one shot back in the gross division were Thomas and Walter Travalja of Manhattan Woods, who shot a 74.
All teams played under the Pinehurst scoring format: Both players hit drives, then each plays a second shot with the other’s ball. After the second shot, a choice is made regarding the ball with which the hole will be completed. Alternate shots are then continued into the hole. On par-three holes, the choice must be made after the tee shots.
