MGA Begins Annual Seminar Season
Elmsford, NY- The Metropolitan Golf Association kicked off its annual Spring Education Series with the Annual Public Golf Forum on February 26th at Emerson GC in Oradell, NJ. It is the first in a series of educational forums, one that provided pubic golf facility leaders and managers with an opportunity to exchange information and ideas as well as hear speakers on a wide variety of topics of mutual concern.
This year’s major theme was the importance of the safety of public facilities in particular, avoiding and dealing with threatening situations.
Pat Roselli, a former EMT worker, now president of GolfSafe Inc, discussed the importance of emergency preparedness, since golf courses are the 5th most likely places for cardiac arrest. He also stressed the importance of having Automated External Defibrillators (AED).
Architect Stephen Kaye discussed legal issues concerning golf course design and how its setup can affect a golfer’s safety, stressing situations where clubs could be held responsible in case of injury. In addition, the MGA’s Gene Westmoreland discussed the initiatives of the MGA Foundation as it begins its 13th year spreading the game golf in the area.
There was also a Round Table exchange, which provided an open forum allowing any other issues relevant to public golf and facilities to be discussed.
The MGA was founded in 1897, and is one of the nation's oldest and largest regional golf associations with more than 500 member clubs in the tri-state Metropolitan Area. For more information, please contact Ian Gillule of the MGA at (914) 347-4653, or visit the MGA website, www.mgagolf.org.
