Gene Westmoreland Elected President of the IAGA

ELMSFORD, NY….MGA Tournament Director/Assistant Executive Director Gene Westmoreland was elected president of the International Association of Golf Administrators (IAGA) for 2002 during the 35th IAGA Annual Meeting held November 11-14, 2001 in Scottsdale, Arizona. He becomes the first person in IAGA history to hold the position of president while maintaining associate membership status.

Gene is in his twenty-first year as the assistant executive director/tournament director of the Metropolitan Golf Association.  He began his career with the MGA in 1978 assisting the field team with championships on a part-time basis.  In addition to his duties at the MGA, Westmoreland is a rules of golf columnist for The Met Golfer and Suburban Golfer.

Gene graduated from Pace University in 1965 with a bachelor of science degree in accounting and marketing.  Prior to joining the MGA, he was hired by his alma mater as an associate athletic director and head coach for the men’s basketball and baseball teams.  In 1999, he was the 10th person to be inducted into the Pace University Athletic Hall of Fame for being the only four-sport athlete in the school's history:  basketball, cross country, golf and baseball.  Westmoreland serves on the Board of Directors for the Tri-state Turf Research Foundation and sits on both the USGA Mid-Amateur Committee and the New York State Golf Advisory Committee.

Joining Westmoreland on the board are Mike Waldron of the Georgia State Golf Association, vice president; Tom Landry of the Massachusetts Golf Association, secretary; Carr McCalla of the Louisiana Golf Association, treasurer; John Bodenhamer of the Pacific Northwest/Washington State Golf Associations, immediate past president and members-at-large Kris Jonasson of the British Columbia Golf Association and Tom Morgan of the Southern California Golf Association.

The IAGA is a body of golf administrators representing amateur golf associations from around the world.  The IAGA serves as a medium for golf administrators to exchange information, techniques and other information related to the game of golf.
