Writer Tom Mackin collected first-place honors in the Travel Writing category for his story, “The Luck of the Irish” in what was The Met Golfer Traveler’s debut issue in its revamped format. The story, featured in his “Play Away” column, detailed a golf trip to the Northwest Coast of Ireland that led to the discovery of new friends and the childhood home of his grandmother.

Also collecting first-place recognition was the MGA’s preview video of the 110th Met Open Championship Presented by Callaway in the short-form video category. The video took a look at The Meadow Brook Club’s championship layout with insight from staff professionals and past champions Matt Dobyns and Dylan Newman, longtime superintendent John Carlone, and MGA championship director Chris Gaffney.

The September issue of The Met Golfer earned Outstanding Achiever honors as the MGA’s official publication went to a fully digital format in 2025. The issue, “Black Magic” previewed the Ryder Cup at Bethpage State Park while also including features on Stanwich professional Mike Summa ahead of his retirement; Southampton Golf Club as it celebrated its 100th year; new golf enthusiast Chef Kwame Onwuachi; and Jon Millman, whose custom ball markers are highly used by professionals.

Two more stories earned Outstanding Achiever acknowledgement: Tom Cunneff’s “Happy Place” (Feature Writing category) that chronicled the filming of Happy Gilmore 2 in the Met Area and Jimmy Roberts’ “From White Whale to Green Jacket” (Opinion/Editorial category) on Rory McIlroy’s historic victory in the Masters.
