MetLife Success Story: Kaitlyn

ELMSFORD, N.Y. (September 18, 2015) – Seventeen year old Kaitlyn “Cat” Cramer is not a novice to working in golf administration. Having just completed her third summer as a GOLFWORKS intern for the Women’s Metropolitan Golf Association, Cat reflects on all that she has learned and recounts stories of working in the WMGA offices and being exposed to the game of golf for the first time.

Originally from Ardsley, N.Y., Cat is beginning her senior year of high school at Ardsley High School. She is captain of her school’s fencing team, has broken records running for her track team, cofounded the Feminism Club, and is also involved in the Gay-Straight Alliance and Film Club. Upon graduation next spring, Cat plans to attend college and double major in Business Management and Marketing. This goal, she explains, was inspired by her mother who has been very successful in the business world working in her role in sales and marketing for Turner Broadcasting.

Cat was originally referred to the GOLFWORKS internship program by a family friend who worked for the MGA and thought she would be an outstanding candidate. According to WMGA Executive Director, Nancy Early, Cat is a “wonderful intern” and is a valued member of the WMGA team. Cat’s daily responsibilities include answering phones, registering competitors for competitions, updating the WMGA website with tournament results, and various other office needs.

Although she never played golf prior to entering the GOLFWORKS program, Cat explains that her time with the WMGA has certainly created a great interest in the game and that she wants to pursue lessons and take up the sport. Because of her internship, she had the opportunity to volunteer with the PGA of America at the Drive, Chip, and Putt qualifier recently held at Knollwood Country Club.

Cat expresses a great interest to return to the WMGA next summer as a GOLFWORKS intern. “GOLFWORKS has been one of the most helpful experiences I've had thus far. It's taught me so much about the professional world and helped me grow as an employee. I've become more responsible, sociable, and patient through my internship,” she says.

Since its founding in 1991, the MGA Foundation has impacted thousands of young people through caddie academies, GOLFWORKS, The First Tee of Metropolitan New York and junior competitions. Educational programs for clubs and a library and archives center at Golf Central help fulfill our mission to help preserve the game's past and protect its future.

For more than 30 years, the MGA and MetLife have partnered to provide the highest level of golf services the Metropolitan area demands.  MetLife’s support of the MGA Foundation and the GOLFWORKS program is a testament to the company’s longstanding mission of giving back, and allows the MGA Foundation to continue instilling the values and traditions of golf in the next generation of golfers.
