Met Open Heads to the Meadow Brook Club

ELMSFORD, N.Y. (August 13, 2025) – The 110th Met Open Presented by Callaway returns to the Meadow Brook Club in Jericho, N.Y., for the third time on August 19-21. A field of top Met Area competitors – 90 professionals and 54 amateurs – will tee it up in the 54-hole championship with hopes of adding their name to the Walker L. Trammell Trophy.

Meadow Brook, a founding member club of the MGA, was incorporated in 1881 in Westbury as the Meadow Brook Hunt Club. In 1893, a golf committee was formed, and by 1894, a nine-hole golf course had been built. Meadow Brook hosted the first U.S. Women’s Amateur championship in 1895 on its original nine-hole layout.

In 1953, ground was broken at the club’s current site in Jericho, with the new course opening for play in 1955. In 2017, renovations were made on the course including a major tree removal, a bunker renovation program, four new green complexes, and six new tee boxes.

The Long Island club has been a strong supporter of MGA championships, having hosted three Met Amateurs (1947, 1960, 1987), three Ike Championships (1997, 2003, 2018), and two previous Met Opens (1977 and 2007). Notable competitors Frank Bensel captured the title in 2007, while Martin Bohen won in 1977.

The field once again contains the region’s top professionals and amateurs, all aiming to write their name in MGA history. Professionals also have their sights on the $36,500 winner’s share of the $200,000 purse.

Field Breakdown
There will be 54 amateurs and 90 professionals teeing it up at Meadow Brook. Qualifying took place at six sites from July 29 to August 7 to determine the final field.

The Prize
The MGA in 2022 upped the purse for the Met Open Championship Presented by Callaway, increasing it by $50,000 to $200,000. This moved the winner’s share from $27,500 to $36,500. The increase has elevated the always exciting opportunity for professionals, thanks to continued support from MGA partners, including presenting championship partner Callaway.

Home Course Advantage
Meadow Brook is well represented with a total of nine competitors in the field from the club. Head Golf Professional Matt Dobyns (2019 champion) and assistants Dylan Newman (2023 champion), Lucas Spahl, and Bill Van Orman are in the field, plus amateurs Jack Downey, Jack Maerki, Charles Nevin, Bryan Pendrick, and Peter Scialabba.

No Easy Feat
Going back-to-back at The Met Open is not easy –only seven players have repeated as champions, with the most recent being Johnson Wagner in 2001 and 2002. Peter Ballo of the Connecticut Golf Club hopes to become the eighth player to accomplish this feat next week at the Meadow Brook Club.

Career Slams
Only Jerry Courville Sr., George Zahringer, and Johnson Wagner have won all three MGA majors – the Ike, Amateur, and Open – in their careers. Wagner is the lone player to possess all three majors at once, having won five straight beginning with the Met Amateur in 2001. Two players in the field, Brad Tilley of Sleepy Hollow and David Pastore of Golf Performance Center, own two legs of the feat, having won the Ike and Met Amateur in their careers.

Tight Race for MGA POY
With a strong field of amateurs teeing it up at Meadow Brook, MGA Player of the Year points are on the line for many. It’s currently tight at the top of the standings with 2024 Player of the Year Matt Lowe leading the race. Just behind Lowe are Met Amateur champion Dean Greyserman and New York State Open winner Christian Cavaliere.

Junior POY Race
Lucas Rizo-Patron leads the Junior Player of the Year race, but is not in the field.  Matthew DiFiore, second in the points race, and Yiwen Wang, currently third, are in the field. DiFiore is 142 points behind Rizo-Patron, and Wang is 145 points off the lead.
