Gonzalez got off to a fast start on Wednesday, establishing an early lead with an impressive eagle and two birdies. Her momentum continued on day two when she was able to match her first-round score until the final hole, where a triple bogey would ultimately derail her chances of maintaining the lead allowing McAndrew to be crowned champion.
“This was really unexpected, I’ve been working on my golf for the past two summers, and it was nice to have it all come together over the last two days,” she said.
“I thought I was behind the entire time, so I just tried to stay steady and consistent by making pars”
McAndrew will compete in the U.S. Women’s Mid-Amateur Championship at Brae Burn Country Club, hoping to add another title to her resume.
