COLTS NECK, N.J. (June 12, 2025) Matthew Lowe of MGA eClub – Long Island, delivered two exceptional rounds of 5-under-par 67 to capture the 77th MGA Public Links Championship on Thursday at Hominy Hill Golf Course, finishing at 10-under-par 134 for the day to win by a dominating six shots.
Lowe played sharp, composed golf throughout the 36-hole championship, carding a total of 12 birdies to just two bogeys across both rounds. His steady play and ability to capitalize on scoring opportunities set him apart from the field on a sun-drenched day in Colts Neck.
“I love 36-hole days—they’re my favorite kind of event,” said the MGA eClub – Long Island member Lowe after sealing the victory. “You get a second chance to build momentum, and I really felt like I was in control all day.”
Despite not seeing Hominy Hill prior to the tournament, Lowe’s approach and strong iron play made up for any lack of course familiarity.
“I hadn’t seen the course before, so the plan was simple: hit fairways, hit greens, and avoid big mistakes. If I did that, I knew the birdies would come—and they did,” he said.
Lowe opened his morning round with a 2-under 34 on the back nine (started on 10) and backed it up with a 33 on what was his inward side, including key birdies on Nos. 8 and 9 as he came into the clubhouse. He repeated the formula in the afternoon, again going 34-33 for a second 67.
“It was one of those days where everything was clicking,” said the reigning MGA Player of the Year. “My short putts were solid, and when I missed a green, I got up and down. I just kept it simple.”
The win marks Lowe’s first MGA title of the season and his second Public Links title, having won in 2023 on Bethpage State Park’s Red Course. Lowe adds a victory to his 2025 campaign, where he has played in four events and has already climbed the Player of the Year leaderboard.
This one means a lot,” said Lowe. “I play a lot of public golf and I really appreciate the atmosphere at events like this. Hominy was in fantastic shape—the greens were pure—and the MGA always puts on a great championship.”
With the MGA Public Links title now in hand, Lowe’s eyes turn to the rest of the season, where he’ll look to carry this momentum into future events. “This gives me a lot of confidence,” said the 29-year-old. “I’m just going to keep building off this and enjoy every chance to compete.”
Finishing solo second was 18-year-old Matthew Difiore of Youth on Course, MGA. Difiore fired back-to-back rounds of 2-under 70 to post a 4-under-par total of 140.
A trio of players rounded out the top five, led by Derek Gutierrez of Galloping Hill Golf Course, who posted rounds of 71-72 to finish third at 1-under. Ethan Lee and Titus Cooke, both representing MGA eClub – New Jersey, each finished tied for fourth at even-par 144 after steady 36-hole performances.
Matt Lowe also tied the MGA Public Links Championship record at 10-under par just one year after it was set at Spook Rock golf Course by Jose Ramirez. The six-shot victory is the second largest in MGA history, trailing Jonathan Jeter’s nine-shot win in 2018 at Griff Harris. Lowe also joins a prestigious group of golfers to have won the title multiple times. The list includes Lee Richardson (1993, 1994, 1999) Jeff Thomas (1992, 1998), Mark Farrell (2005, 2006) and Jeter (2018, 2021).
This was the sixth time Hominy Hill hosted the MGA Public Links Championship having most recently hosted the championship in 2011. Hominy Hill has also hosted both the U.S. Amateur Public Links Championship (1983) and U.S. Women’s Amateur Public Links Championship (1995).
