ELMSFORD, N.Y. (April 11, 2025) — The road to Oakmont Country Club and the 125th U.S. Open Championship begins with local qualifying, conducted over 18 holes at 110 sites in 43 U.S. states, Canada, and Mexico between April 16 – May 19. The MGA will conduct five of those local qualifying rounds throughout the Met Area between April 28 – May 12.

A record-setting 10,202 entries were accepted by the USGA for the 125th U.S. Open, marking the fourth time in championship history that the number of entries has exceeded 10,000. Entries were accepted from golfers in all 50 states, as well as Puerto Rico, the District of Columbia, and 80 foreign countries.
Advancing players will join a group of locally exempt competitors in final qualifying, which will be conducted over 36 holes. This final stage will be held in England and Japan (May 19) and Canada (June 2) as well as 10 U.S. sites, one on May 19 and the remaining nine on June 2. The MGA will once again host final qualifying on the North and South courses of Canoe Brook Country Club in Summit, N.J., on June 2.

April 28 – Brookville Country Club, Old Brookville, N.Y.
Reid Howey of Huntington, N.Y., and David Morgan of Naples, Fla., topped the field at the 125th U.S. Open Local Qualifier at Old Brookville, each shooting a 4-under-par 66 to share medalist honors. Four players finished close behind at two under 68: Christian Dolan of East Islip, N.Y., Lowery Thomas of Old Hickory, Tenn., Vincent Venard of Port Washington, N.Y., and Alexandre Fuchs of Herndon, Va.

April 28 – Essex County Country Club, West Orange, N.J.
Amateur golfers led the way at Essex County, capturing all seven qualifying spots. Charles Castellano of Miami, Fla., led the way, firing a 3-under 68 to earn medalist honors. Close behind was Michael Walsh of Shelburne, Vt., who finished solo second at 2-under 69. Clifford Lindholm of Montclair, N.J., and Alexander Lundvall of Sweden both posted even-par 70s. Also punching their tickets to the next stage were Matthew Barnes of Bethesda, Md., Connor Henderson of Tigard, Ore., and Yossi Benchetrit of New York, N.Y., each finishing at 1-over par. In a playoff for the alternate spots, Jack Wall of Brielle, N.J., secured the first position, with JJ Logue of Palm Beach Gardens, Fla., claiming the second.

May 8 – Knickerbocker Country Club, Tenafly, N.J.
Ethan Ng of Jacksonville, Fla., and Jason Bataille of Bridgewater, N.J. topped a tight leaderboard in New Jersey. Both golfers carded a 6-under 66 on their way to final qualifying. Bataille had a slow start but set the course on fire on the back nine. After a 1-over 36 on the front he carded seven birdies, including four in a row, coming into the clubhouse. Ng had a more balanced card shooting 2-under on the front nine before a bogey-free 3-under on the way in. Finishing just one shot back was Peter Hong of West Chester, Ohio, Cole Ekert of Chatham, N.J., and Sean Vowells of Chatham, N.J. Rounding out the qualifiers was Brandon Berry of Great Falls, Va. Berry made a run on the closing stretch which was halted due to a weather delay. After knocking his approach to two feet the horn went off and he endured an hour-long delay before sinking the putt and getting his card to move on to final qualifying.

May 12 – Noyac Golf Club, Sag Harbor, N.Y.
James Nicholas of Palm Beach Gardens, FL, got off to a hot start and never looked back. Nicholas carded a 7-under-par 65 to claim medalist honors and finish five shots clear of the field. With an impressive seven birdies and an eagle on the ninth hole, he cruised into a qualifying spot. In a five-way tie behind Nicholas, Will Lodge of Darien, Conn.; Tyler Gerbavsits of Huntington, N.Y.; Callahan Harrell of York, Pa.; Raul Pereda of St. Augustine, FL; and Sam O’Hara of Rye, N.Y., all finished at 2-under-par 70.

May 12 – Connecticut Golf Club, Easton, Conn.
In what proved to be the toughest qualifying course, Daniel Balin of White Plains, N.Y., earned medalist honors after posting a 2-under-par 70. Balin recorded an eagle on the 16th hole to go along with four birdies. Following closely behind are a pair of familiar names: Brad Tilley of Easton, Conn., and Barnes Blake of Westfield, N.J. Both amateur golfers shot an impressive 1-under-par 71 to advance. Coming in at even par were Matt Campbell of New Hartford, N.Y., and Mason Haynes of Elizabethtown, Ky. Rounding out the qualifiers are Yiwen Wang of Scarsdale, N.Y., and Nicholas Yuan of South Salem, N.Y., both finishing at 1-over-par 73.
