LAUREL, N.Y. (October 6, 2025) —Â A 4-under 67 led Hunter Jones of Burning Tree to the top of the leaderboard on Monday in the 19th MGA Mid-Amateur Championship, earning him a one-shot lead heading into Tuesday’s final round at Laurel Links Country Club.

As usual in the MGA Mid-Amateur, the leaderboard is packed entering the final day, as 14 players stand within four shots of Jones. Brian Kehoe of Brooklawn and Thomas Lee of Hudson National both fired 3-under 68s while past Long Island Mid-Amateur champion Colin Dolph of Nassau and 2025 Connecticut Amateur champion Adam Friedman of Sterling Farms are both two shots back after 2-under 69s.
The depth of the chasing field continues with a mix of past MGA Player of the Year Honorees and past MGA Mid-Amateur champions. Brad Tilley of Sleepy Hollow and Darin Goldstein of Deepdale fit both of those categories, sitting at 1-under and even-par, respectively. Reigning MGA Player of the Year and MGA eClub – Long Island member Matt Lowe is also at 1-under, while past champion Pat Wilson of Hamilton Farm is at even-par.
Players with wins this season are also in that same mix, with 2025 Long Island Mid-Amateur champion Michael Auerbach of Bellport and 2025 New York State Open winner and MGA Player of the Year point-leader Christian Cavaliere of Hudson National at 1-under and even-par, respectively.
Laurel Links has proven itself as a challenging test of golf, having hosted several qualifiers and championships in recent years. Professional Jason Caron of Mill River claimed the Long Island Senior Open at the club in 2023 prior to his success on the PGA TOUR Champions, while Matt Mattare won the Met Amateur at the club in 2017.
The MGA’s Mid-Amateur Championship debuted in 2007 at Hudson National and has since visited some of the region’s most respected courses, with The Tuxedo Club, Country Club of Fairfield, and Manasquan River hosting the most recent playings. Players earn the highly sought-after invite based on finishes in MGA and other Met Area events. The trophy, the Westmoreland Cup, is named for longtime MGA Tournament Director Gene Westmoreland who was instrumental in launching the championship and has a great passion for the mid-amateur game.
