PURCHASE, N.Y. (August 3, 2025) —Â After taking a 2-up lead into the afternoon 18 at Old Oaks, Dean Greyserman of Hamilton Farm never relinquished his lead, capturing the 123rd Met Amateur Championship by a 3-and-1 margin over MGA eClub – Long Island member Matt Lowe at Old Oaks Country Club.

The two traded wins on Nos. 2 and 3 and again on Nos. 5 and 6 to remain level through six holes of play. Lowe made birdie on the par-5 second for an early highlight. Greyserman made it two straight wins with a conceded birdie on the par-3 seventh after Lowe found the greenside bunker and left himself a lengthy par bid that slid past the hole.
Greysermon won Nos. 6 and 7, then Nos. 10 and 11 to grab a 3-up lead in the morning 18. Lowe won the 13th and stood two back entering the afternoon. Greyserman pushed his lead to 4-up through 24 holes and though Lowe trimmed the deficit to one through 31 holes, Greyserman had an answer, taking Nos. 32 and 33 to reclaim the lead. They do traded holes on the next two for Greyserman to capture the victory.

The return of an MGA Major to the club comes in an exciting year, with Old Oaks celebrating 100 years in 2025. The MGA was last at Old Oaks for the 2018 MGA Senior Amateur – which the club also hosted in 1977 – while the Met Open was staged at the A.W. Tillinghast layout in 1984. Now, the region’s top amateurs will square off on the championship layout to write another chapter of Met Amateur history.
The championship always stands as a test of both skill and stamina and has been claimed by the likes of Walter Travis, Willie Turnesa, Dick Siderowf, Jerry Courville, Sr., George Zahringer, and many more throughout its noted history.
After wins by mid-amateur competitors Garett Engel and Brad Tilley in 2021 and 2022, college competitors returned to the winners’ circle the last two years, with both Josh German and Donte Groppuso rising to the occasion to secure the title in their first appearance in the championship.
