OAK RIDGE, N.J. (June 20, 2013) – A rain out forced the final Sectional Qualifying Round for the 66th MGA/MetLife Public Links Championship to be re-scheduled for today and 52 players teed it up at Bowling Green Golf Club in Oak Ridge, N.J. Players were competing for 10 qualifying spots plus ties at the challenging New Jersey golf course.
Tight tree-lined fairways kept players from going low today but Sangsoo Lee of MGA eClub – N.J. was the medalist with an even par 72. Just yesterday Lee was also the medalist at a MGA conducted Sectional Qualifying Round for the U.S. Amateur Public Links Championship at Hudson Hills Golf Course in Ossining, N.Y.
Ryan Siegler of MGA eClub – N.J., Michael Corbo Jr. of MGA eClub – N.J. and Jaewon Lee of River Vale all tied for second with 2-over 74s.
Kyle Koonjy of Darlington birdied the par-5 18th to shoot a 3-over 75 and qualify. Also shooting 75 and qualifying was Juan Pablo Sanchez of Bethpage State Park who carded pars on the final four holes.
Rounding out the final qualifiers all with 4-over 76s was Pete Berman of Roycebrook, Michael Pansini of Blue Hill Golf Association, John Ziegler of MGA eClub – N.J., Thomas Barnes of Darlington, Keith Prokop of Crystal Springs and Paul Genova of High Mountain.
The MGA/MetLife Public Links Championship is open to all amateur golfers who play out of a public golf course and carry a Handicap Index of 8.0 or below.
Those who qualified will be heading to Richter Park Golf Course in Danbury Conn. on July 11 to play for the championship. Bowling Green Golf Course, a par-72 (36-36), played to 6,514 yards for the qualifier.
