Jim McGovern and other Met Area natives earn a trip to the U.S. Open

PURCHASE, N.Y.–On a beautiful day at Century Country Club & Old Oaks Country Club, both in Purchase, NY, 34-year old Glastonbury, CT native Tim Petrovic fulfilled a boyhood dream and earned his first trip to a U.S. Open by firing an impressive 3-under par total of 138 (67-71), to claim medalist honors at today’s U.S. Open Sectional Qualifying Round.  Currently in 4th place on the Buy.com money list, Petrovic earned his Buy.com card via his finish at Q-school last year, seven years after almost going broke on the former Nike Tour in 1993.  “The road has been filled with pot holes, speed bumps & forks.  It’s hardly been a straight line, but suddenly it all seems worth it”, the leading money winner and 4-time winner on the 2000 Golden Bear Tour said afterwards.

George Frake, II is all smiles after qualfiying for his 1st U.S. Open
