ELMSFORD, NY (September 12, 2023) – The bond that siblings share is unique. Working with your siblings enhances that bond with the shared experiences of sharing a workplace. At Mountain Ridge Country Club, brothers Jensen and Jeyden Vizcaino have shared those experiences through the GOLFWORKS program over the years.
Jeyden and Jensen do some of everything for Jack Torchia, the assitant director of outdoor operations at Mountain Ridge. You can find them in the bag room, on the driving range, or helping to set up events. Both were on staff and working when the club hosted the 105th Met Open in 2020.
I love working here with [Jensen]. It is great seeing him every day during the summer. It’s that brother bond you can’t replace,”
Torchia started at Mountain Ridge as a GOLFWORKS intern himself. He worked his way up from the bag room to now overseeing the bag room, the range, and caddie operations. As part of his role, he supervises the current GOLFWORKS interns.
“I do appreciate it coming full circle. It is a cool story of how it works here. I enjoy working here and having a great staff; these are good kids. Hopefully, one of these kids can come take my job someday,”said Torchia.
Torchia added, “Over time, they have done the same call to action as I did, taking on more responsibility and being able to grow into themselves.”
Both brothers have seen growth in themselves since they started working at the club. With their member-facing roles, both have grown in communication skills and become comfortable with members and guests.
“I have found that you need to put yourself out there to become the person you want to be,” noted Jensen. “I was a bit nervous when I started due to being one of the younger people on staff. Over the years, I have learned how to communicate with others better and become part of the team.
Jeyden added, “It’s beneficial because I am studying psychology. I love it because it’s human behavior and learning how to adapt to different personalities and how they receive information.”
Since the brothers don’t attend college together—Jensen goes to Montclair State and Jeyden goes to Monmouth—they enjoy being able to spend their summers together working and playing golf at the club. Both took up golf recently and try to get out as much as possible after their shifts.
“You could not ask for a better place. Everyone here is nice and respectful,” added Jensen. “People here are always willing to help.”
Mountain Ridge has been a longtime supporter of the MGA Foundation and the GOLFWORKS student intern program, welcoming interns each season. Working with your brother further enhances that brotherly bond. That holds true for Jensen & Jeyden Vizcaino of Mountain Ridge Country Club.
