West Caldwell, N.J. (September 1, 2026) – A pair of GOLFWORKS interns spent the summer at Mountain Ridge Country Club playing pivotal roles in helping the club run on a daily basis and building professional relationships.
Luke Renoff and Slater DiMaggio worked on the outside operations team, where they were responsible for maintaining and cleaning the practice areas and carts and assisting in the bag room. It was both kids’ first experience working at the club, which has been a longtime supporter of the GOLFWORKS intern program.
“This was my first real consistent hour-to-hour job, so it teaches a lot, and you have to follow through with the commitments you make,” Renoff said. “There are people relying on me and it has an impact on the whole club.”
Renoff also realized that this job provided valuable networking opportunities with members, guests, and other staff.
“You get to meet a lot of people, and you can have a lot of different conversations with them,” Renoff added. “I made a lot of friends through it and being in the bag room, you also get to caddie so you get to build more personal connections with them.”
Among those who Renoff was able to meet were members who had attended Indiana University, where he’s starting his freshman year as a finance major.
DiMaggio, a sophomore at Montclair State , was eager to work at Mountain Ridge after a fraternity brother had recalled positive experiences working at the club.
“It’s the best summer job I’ve had,” DiMaggio said. “I think I’m going to keep coming back here. It’s a great place, great environment, and the people here are amazing.”
Similar to Renoff, he plans to pursue a career in finance and took a big step when he caddied for a group one day. DiMaggio struck up a conversation with a member who works in the finance world and was able to learn more about what a career in finance looks like. .
“GOLFWORKS, it’s just amazing,” DiMaggio added. “Even something to put on your resumé.”
Slater and DiMaggio are two of 273 number of kids who worked across 59 different Met Area clubs in 2026.
The GOLFWORKS program, the MGA Foundation’s cornerstone program since it’s creation in 1994, places student interns at MGA member clubs and facilities where they spend the summer working in various areas of the club industry.
Interns learn from industry professionals and may spend time working in the golf shop, as part of the food and beverage service, on the grounds staff, or as part of the clubhouse operations. For many, this is a “first job” and provides professional and life lessons that helps interns succeed with their future education plans and careers.
