The leaderboard is tight with 12 golfers within three shots of the lead. Johnathan Farber of Mill River Club leads the way after shooting E/72 in the opening round. It was an up and down day for Farber, who recorded four birdies and four bogeys on the day.

Farber credits his putting for getting him through the round. “It was all lag putting, with greens that are big and fast, I was often putting from off the green. I saw other people doing it and had success with it for the most part.”

In the morning session, Tim Mirocco of Bellport Golf Club tallied a 1-over par 73. After teeing off on the tenth hole and opening with a birdie, Mirocco finished his front-nine bogey-free. The back nine proved more challenging, with two bogeys and a couple of doubles to go with two more birdies.

“I putted great most of the day, until the end with a couple of three putts coming in,” Mirocco explained.

Matthew Rendell of Glen Cove Golf Club was one of two players to finish 2-over par. After a slow start on holes 1-5, he found his pace and proceeded to play bogey-free golf. Colin Dolph of Nassau Country Club also finished at 2-over par after shooting a 38 – 36 to finish with a 74.

Overall, 46 players made the cut and will return to The Bridge on Thursday for the second and final round. The cut line was 7-over par, which rose as the afternoon went on and the wind picked up.

The final round gets underway at 7:30 A.M. on Thursday morning. The final pairing of Johnthan Farber and Tim Mirocco is scheduled to tee off 10:55 A.M.
