The race for the 2018 MGA Jerry Courville Sr. Player of the Year Award has come down to the wire as Darin Goldstein of Deepdale and James Nicholas of Westchester CC are both at the top of the leaderboard of the Gene Sarazen Invitational at Fresh Meadow.
Heading into the final points-eligible of the season, three-time defending LIGA POY Goldstein led the standings with 854 points, but a win at the Nassau Invitational in early October put Nicholas just 44 points behind him with 810 points. The winner of the Sarazen receives 75 player of the year points, and points are awarded to the top-ten finishers. It all comes down to the final round of the Sarazen, today at Fresh Meadow, and after Goldstein and Nicholas both shot scores of 1-under in Monday’s first round, they will play together in the penultimate group, off at 9:54 a.m.
