ELMSFORD, N.Y. (July 12, 2024) – The Long Island Golf Association (LIGA) is pleased to make a significant donation to the Long Island Caddie Scholarship Fund (LICSF) in support of youth caddies and those who work in service to golf on Long Island. The LIGA has made a gift of $230,000 to the LICSF to support the Fund’s efforts in making a difference in the lives of young men and women on Long Island.

“On behalf of the LIGA Executive Board, we could not be prouder to support the Long Island Caddie Scholarship Fund,” said Jay Sessa, President of the LIGA. “Our mission includes promoting the game of golf, conducting competitive tournaments, and supporting philanthropic causes. This donation, the largest in LIGA history, exemplifies our unwavering commitment to the LICSF and will benefit the academic endeavors of young adults from Long Island for years to come.”

The LICSF has awarded nearly $5 million in scholarship aid to 950 deserving scholars since 1962. Young men and women who work and/or caddie at clubs and facilities on Long Island are eligible for financial assistance through the LICSF as they pursue higher education.

“The LICSF is grateful to the LIGA for its leadership and generosity, as well as the many clubs and courses on Long Island for their commitment to support youth caddies,” said Michael Sullivan, President of the LICSF and a former LICSF scholarship recipient. “Caddieing and working at courses provide a tremendous on-ramp for young people into the game, and it’s a wonderful experience to work in and around golf. We’re proud of our scholars and are thrilled that this gift will make an impact as we continue our mission of providing scholarships to these deserving young adults.”

A check presentation ceremony was held at Cherry Valley Club to celebrate this donation.

The LIGA has collaborated with the MGA since 2018, with the MGA operating the LIGA’s championship events and responsible for all administrative functions. Similarly, the LICSF is administered by the MGA Foundation (since 2018), whose mission is to provide life-changing experiences through the game of golf.
