MGA Women’s Player of the Year Guidelines

The final selection of the MGA Women’s Player of the Year Award, and of individuals to represent the MGA in special competitions, is determined by the MGA Executive Committee. The selection process will include, but will not be limited to, Player of the Year points earned during a season.

Please note the following guidelines for tracking your points:

  1. To be eligible for the MGA Women’s Player of the Year Award, a competitor must be a member of an MGA member club.
  2. In an event where points are awarded for Sectional Qualifying, Exempt players will be awarded qualifying points only if they compete in the Championship. The term “compete” shall mean that a player has completed at least 18 holes (stroke play) or one match (match play) in the event.
  3. In events for which points are awarded for Local or Sectional Qualifying, if non-exempt players, or exempt players who have given up their exemption, play in and earn points for qualifying, they will be awarded those points even if they subsequently withdraw from the championship proper.
  4. In order to earn MGA Player of the Year points, a player must be a member of an MGA member club prior to the start of the points-eligible competition. A competition starts on the first day the player competes in either qualifying or the championship itself.
  5. An Amateur who turns professional during a calendar year remains eligible for the Player of the Year Honor Roll and Player of the Year Award if, and only if, she turned professional after the last official event on the point-ranking system for the season was completed.
  6. It is the responsibility of each player to notify the MGA of top finishes in any national or international event or if they qualify for a USGA event outside of the Metropolitan Area within a practical time period upon completion of the event.
  7. Points may be awarded at the discretion of the Metropolitan Golf Association for high finishes in other national or international events or qualifying for an MGA major championship.
