The MGA in 2024 took on an enhanced leadership role in both administering and conducting the Women’s Met Amateur Championship. Since 2012, the championship was co-administered between the MGA and the Women’s Metropolitan Golf Association (WMGA), who established the event in 2002 for competitive amateur women golfers in the Met Area. Collaboration and support for the championship will continue from the WMGA.
The inaugural playing took place at High Mountain Golf Club in Franklin Lakes, N.J., and the championship has since visited many of the region’s top venues, including Atlantic Golf Club, Fenway Golf Club, The Creek, Stanwich, Siwanoy Country Club, and more.
The Met Area’s top female amateurs compete in the Women’s Amateur, and the list of past champions is filled with accomplished players such as past professionals Nannette Hill and Megan Grehan, plus past U.S. Women’s Mid-Amateur champion Ina Kim-Schaad, whose three victories tie her with Laura Algiero for the most wins in the event’s history.
