BASKING RIDGE, N.J. (July 21, 2025) – It was an exciting day at New Jersey National Golf Club as Julian and Jozef Thur of MGA eClub – Hudson Valley and Quill & Tee Golf Club won by match of cards against Eric and Drew Berger of Griff Harris Mens Club after the duos tied for first place with net scores of 5-under 67 at the 5th MGA Parent-Child Championship.
Through the match of cards tiebreaker the Thurs edged the Bergers by having the lower score on the back nine, tallying a net 35 versus 37. Finishing third with a net 2-under 70 were Peter and Peter Rubeo of Sprain Lake and the last team to finish under par, with a net score of 1-under 71, was David and Tom Gramolini of the Saxony Club who placed fourth.
The Thur duo played well in the Pinehurst format, where partners both drive from the tee, and then each plays a second shot with the other’s ball. After the second shot, a choice is made regarding the ball with which the hole will be completed, with alternate shots being continued into the hole. On par three holes, the choice must be made after the tee shots.
The winning pair made a net eagle on the par-4 12th, but gave one back with a bogey on the ensuing hole. However, the duo found their rhythm as they closed, making three consecutive pars on Nos. 14-16 before finishing off strong with a natural birdie on the 347-yard par-4 17th and a net birdie on the 521-yard par-5 18th to close their round at 5-under.
The Bergers tallied seven net birdies on the round in addition to a natural birdie on the par-3 15th, while also adding a trio of bogeys on their card to finish second after the match of cards.
