ELMSFORD, N.Y. (November 15, 2022) – Kateryna Poltoratska, or Kate, first came to the United States when she was in high school. As part of her school curriculum, she studied for a year in the U.S., while living with a host family. Currently Kate is studying at Berea College, a small Liberal Arts college in Berea, Ky., that offers full tuition scholarships to all its students. Poltoratska recently finished a summer internship in the GOLFWORKS program at Hollywood Golf Club.

This spring, the MGA Foundation opened the GOLFWORKS program to Ukrainian students studying in the United States. The program was aimed at aiding stateside refugees who did not have a home country to return to this summer, while also meeting the demand of seasonal employment at Met Area clubs.

Kate was an accounts receivable intern at Hollywood Golf Club, learning the ins and outs of accounting and the club industry.

“I learned a lot in my internship,” said Poltoratska. “It was a great experience, and I was very excited about the area and being so close to New York City. Everyone at the club was so helpful and it felt like family. I am grateful to Hollywood and the MGA for offering the program.”

“Being from India I was really able to empathize with her,” said Hollywood General Manager Salil Bokil. “She has been tremendous during her time here and I notice right away from talking with her how professional and responsible she was. She was a welcome addition this summer and I am happy we could help in some small way.”

Poltorastka is now back studying at Berea, but she has certainly left her mark on the program and Hollywood in a short time.
