Casler leads golfers to U.S. Amateur Final Qualifying at Wykagyl
Walden, N.Y. (June 17, 2024) -- On a hot and sunny day 12 golfers earned a spot into the 124th U.S. Amateur Final Qualifier at Wykagyl Country Club on July 22. In the first year of local and final qualifying to get to the championship, Jack Casler of Garden City, N.Y., topped the list of qualifiers.

Casler posted the lowest round of the day at 4-under par. After starting with a bogey, Casler made two birdies on the front to make the turn at 1-under par. Casler played exceptional golf on a difficult inward nine to move up the leaderboard. He finished strong, making birdies on the last three holes.
The next closest to Casler was Tyler Cline of Naples, Fla., and Tyler Bruneau of West Palm Beach, Fla., who both finished one back. Cline had a hot start with three birdies on the first four holes of his day. He gave several shots back closing out the front nine, but picked it up on the difficult closing nine with three birdies. Bruneau had a perfect start to his day with a bogey-free opening nine. He had a rough stretch on Nos. 14-15, but bounced back with a birdie.
Rounding out the top three was Trey Kidd of Scottsdale, Ariz., and Leon Bui of Bronx, N.Y., who both finished at 2-under par. Rounding out players under-par was Harry Cohen of Wyckoff, N.J., and Matthew Morse of New York City, N.Y.
The final qualifying spot was claimed in a ten for one playoff, as 10 competitors finished at 1-over par in a tie for twelfth. In the playoff James Alden of East Northport, N.Y., earned the final qualifying spot after making par on the second playoff hole. The final alternate spots were claimed by Jackson Fretty of Cos Cob, Conn., and Aidan Emmerich of Swampscott, Mass.
