Chery & Schremmer lead Qualifiers for U.S. Girls & U.S. Junior Am

ELMSFORD, N.Y. (May 20, 2024) Southampton Golf Club played host to the 76th U.S. Junior Amateur Championship qualifier and the 75th U.S. Girls’ Junior championship qualifier on Monday.

The 75th U.S. Girls’ Junior Championship Qualifier at Southampton had one qualifying spot up for grabs. Scarlett Schremmer of Birmingham, Alabama claimed the qualifying spot and medalist after shooting a 2-under 68. Schremmer was the only girl under par for the day, finishing four strokes clear of second. Schremmer started off with a bogey on the first but quickly found her grove birding the second, a short par 3. She would give two shots back closing out the front nine. She made her move up the leaderboard with a strong back nine which included five birdies in a seven-hole stretch. This would take her from 2-over to 2-under where she would finish after a par on 18. Schremmer will be moving on the Championship hosted by El Caballero Country Club from July 15-20.

The first alternate is Arabella Lopez of Ridgefield, Connecticut. Lopez played steady golf on the front nine recording a birdie. The back nine saw more action with several birdies and bogies. The final alternate position was claimed by Joline Truong of Canada. Truong shot six over after recording a 37 and on the front and 39 on the back for a 76.

The 76th U.S. Junior Amateur Championship qualifier at Southampton saw four golfers advance to Oakland Hills Country Club in Michigan on July 22-27. North Chery of East Haven, Connecticut topped the leaderboard after shooting an impressive 65 for 5-under. It was a strong start on the front with three birdies that propelled him up the leaderboard. He would continue the great play on the back nine adding three more birdies. Following behind in a solo second place was Michael Mcconie of Huntington, New York who would finish with a 3-under 67. Owen Jessop of Westhampton Beach followed with a 68 after a dramatic finish where he would eagle 17 and birdie 18 to advance.Mack Edwards of Charlotte, North Carolina claimed the final spot in a one-hole playoff winning with a par.
