Quarterfinals set at St. Georges

 

EAST SETAUKET, N.Y. (July 9, 2024) The second day of the 101st Long Island Amateur Championship presented by Webster Bank has concluded and the Quarterfinals are set after another hot and humid day of competition.

Darin Goldstein of Deepdale Golf Club will face off against Peter Scialabba of Meadow Brook. Goldstein, who was the 16 seed, took down 17 seed Shane Devincenzo of USGA/MGA GC in the opening round by a score of 4 & 3. In the Round of 16 Goldstein would face our defending champion and one seed Carter Prince of Meadow Brook. Goldstein had a hot start to the day making multiple birdies on the first five holes to take control of the match. After some great golf from the group Goldstein would once again win 4 & 3.

 Scialabba would come out with his best golf, winning the opening match 6 & 5. After moving on to the round of 16 Peter would face fellow Meadow Brook member Dennis Driscoll. In a tight match that would go the distance Scialabba would eventually win 2 up.

Robert Giuffra of Shinnecock Hills will face Max Silverman of Glen Oaks Country Club in the quarterfinals after they both advanced. Giuffra advances after winning his matches 2 & 1 and 3 & 1. Silverman the 12 seed advances after winning his matches over Brett Cyrgalis of Plandome Country Club and Ben Mitchell of Fresh Meadows Country Club.

Rounding out our quarterfinalists are Jonathan Farber of the Mill River Club, Dean Muratore of MET PGA Junior GC, Char Russekoff of Gardiner’s Bay Country Club, and Michael McConie of Colonial Springs. Farber and Muratore won their round of 16 matches 3 & 2, and 2 & 1.

Russekoff advanced after winning 3 & 2 and then 2 & 1. Rounding out the mix McConnie won his opening match 2 & 1 to move on. He would then win his round of 16 match 3 up to punch his ticket to Quarterfinals.

Play for Quarterfinals is set to begin at 7:30 a.m. on Wednesday.
