Kingston N.Y. (October 22, 2024) On a beautiful October day that at times felt like July, our defending Champion Mark Mumford of Westchester Country Club once again sets pace at the 15th Westchester Mid-Amateur Championship at Wiltwyck Golf Club. Mumford fired an opening round 3-under 69 to gain a one-shot edge over Ross Nicholson of Pelham Country Club and the rest of the field.
Mumford had a busy day on the Trent Jones designed course recording 6 birdies along with an eagle on his way to the top of the leaderboard. After Nicholson in second at 2-under par, Eric Bleile of Great River Golf Club and Brian McGovern of NYPD Golf Team follow with even par rounds.
Overall, there are ten golfers within six shots of the lead heading into the final round.
The final round will begin at 7:50 am tomorrow morning with a total of 40 players making the cut.
The field will be competing for the championship trophy, which is named in honor of Robert J. Bluestone, who passed away in July of 2019. Bluestone was a former president of Rockrimmon Country Club and spent much of his time at the Stamford, Conn., Club. He dedicated many years serving as a volunteer on the MGA Executive Committee and MGA Foundation’s Board of Directors and served as president of the Westchester Golf Association and its Caddie Scholarship Fund.
