Mumford sets the pace at Pound Ridge

Pound Ridge, N.Y. (October 23, 2023) On a cold and windy day a Pound Ridge Golf Club It is Mark Mumford of Westchester Country Club who leads the field at the 14th Westchester Golf Association Mid-Amateur Championship. On a day no one broke par 1-over was good enough to set the mark to be heading into Tuesday.
Mark Mumford’s 1-over par 73 was good enough to land him a 3 shot lead over the field. Starting on the back 9 he recorded 2 birdies and a bogey for a 1-under par 35. After a birdie on 1 he would give one back with a double bogey on the number 1 handicap 2nd hole.
Doug Kleeschulte of Wiltwyck Golf Club finished in a solo second after shooting a 4-over 76. Following Kleeschulte was a group of golfers within striking distance.
Defending Champion Nick Taylor of MGA eClub NYC is in the hunt again after shooting a 77 which was good enough for a sole 3rd place. Sean Cronin of Salem Golf Club came in one behind them with a 78. Also in the hunt is Alexander Murdoch of MGA eClub Connecticut, George Bresnan of Golf Performance Center and Robert Fitch of USGA/MGA GC.
The final round will begin at 8:30 am tomorrow morning with a total of 41 players making the cut.
The field will be competing for the championship trophy, which is named in honor of Robert J. Bluestone, who passed away in July of 2019. Bluestone was a former president of Rockrimmon Country Club and spent much of his time at the Stamford, Conn., Club. He dedicated many years serving as a volunteer on the MGA Executive Committee and MGA Foundation’s Board of Directors and served as president of the Westchester Golf Association and its Caddie Scholarship Fund.
