The Metropolitan Golf Association’s Executive Committee created the MGA Ambassador Program in 1995 to foster improved and continuous communication between the Association and its member clubs. We feel that this program is a critical link to ensure that each club can take full advantage of MGA services, programs and resources, as well as making our organization aware of issues and concerns that clubs are facing.
Ambassadors act as important liaisons between their clubs and the MGA to ensure that each club is taking full advantage of the MGA’s services, programs and resources. From the MGA’s side, these ambassadors will serve an important role in making the MGA aware of issues and concerns that clubs are facing on a timely basis, so we can proactively help and support our member clubs.
Formerly known as the “Club Rep Program,” the re-branded initiative will also look to expand the reach and create a more diverse culture of ambassadors. To this end, the MGA will default to appointing both the Men’s and Women’s Golf Chairs from each of our member clubs to serve as the club’s MGA Ambassadors if the current Ambassador does not wish to remain in the position. This shift will provide the MGA with greater opportunities to provide better solutions and services to the Met Area golfing community with issues that affect everyone at the club. No issue will be too small to address, and the diverse participation will add to the wealth of knowledge already created by the program.
The Ambassador program fosters open communication between the MGA and our valued member clubs in the hopes of creating real solutions to any issue a club might face. This network of Ambassadors and their connections with their peers at other clubs will be a valuable resource of ideas, suggestions and solutions for all.
An actively engaged Ambassador can provide valuable assistance to the club as a whole. To be an effective liaison, we ask that your Ambassador be a board member (note: the program is designed for volunteer leaders, not staff members) or someone who has regular access to the Board. The MGA will default to appointing both the Men’s and Women’s Golf Chairs from each of our member clubs to serve as the club’s MGA Ambassadors if the current Ambassador does not wish to remain in the position.
The primary responsibility of an MGA Ambassador is to act as a liaison between the MGA and their Club. They will be asked to:
- Attend the annual Spring Ambassador Luncheon Meeting and other regional meetings held throughout the season. 2024 Spring Ambassador Meeting: March 23 at the Apawamis Club in Rue, N.Y. Info and Registration
- Participate in short online surveys throughout the year.
- Keep the MGA informed of issues and concerns facing the club and challenge the MGA to assist with the development of solutions for their club.
In today’s fast-paced world and changing club society it is more important than ever that clubs be aware of issues that may affect them and the services available through the MGA. Your association is committed to serving clubs in this critical area and our club representative program is a vital link in our ability to provide this service.
To be an effective liaison we believe your club representative should be a board member, or someone who has regular access to the board. To find out more about the MGA Ambassador program, contact Kevin Kline at 914-909-4849.
