ELMSFORD, N.Y. (May 9, 2013) – On Monday, May 6th, the MGA Foundation conducted its 19th Day of Golf at Quaker Ridge Golf Club in
Scarsdale, N.Y. More than $130,000 was raised in support of the Foundation’s cornerstone student intern program, GOLFWORKS, as 132 golfers enjoyed the challenging A.W. Tillinghast design. This summer, GOLFWORKS will provide meaningful summer work experiences to more than 250 deserving students at over 80 MGA member clubs.“Quaker Ridge was a wonderful host and this was one of our most successful fundraisers in the 19-year history of the event,” said MGA Foundation Chairman Jeff Holzschuh.
Along with a round of golf on one of the world’s best layouts, guests got to meet Julie Hung of Hartsdale, N.Y., who stole the show when she addressed all of the participants during the post-golf reception, speaking about her valuable working experiences as a GOLFWORKS intern at Metropolis Country Club.
Also on hand were three other outstanding GOLFWORKS interns, including David Hodges (Golf Club of Purchase, 2011-’13), Freddy Figueroa (Scarsdale Golf Club 2010-’13), and Skye McCaine (Winged Foot Golf Club, 2009-’13). The student interns enjoyed the opportunity to network with the day’s participants and have their stories captured by the Back9Network, which produced video content of the day’s activities.
In addition, Holzschuh introduced past MGA President Al Small as the Schulman Director of Development, a new position created in honor of Lowell M. Schulman, who was integral in creating the MGA Foundation in 1992 and remains one of its most loyal and generous supporters. Small will be responsible for developing relationships with individuals, businesses and other charitable organizations to help take the MGA Foundation to new heights.“I’m truly excited about being part of the MGA Foundation and helping to change the lives of deserving young people,” Small said.
Thanks to Quaker Ridge’s generosity and the support of all participants, the MGA Foundation had a successful day in raising funds for GOLFWORKS. MGA Executive Director Jay Mottola announced that next year’s event will be held on May 19, 2014 at Maidstone Club in East Hampton, N.Y.
