ELMSFORD, N.Y. (August 9, 2011) – The Met Area’s top junior golfers under the age of 16 take their talents to the shores of New Jersey for the 43rd MGA/MetLife Boys Championship, set to be played August 11 & 12 at Rumson Country Club in Rumson, N.J. The two-day, match play event features a field of 16 of the Met Area’s rising stars on a Rumson track that has hosted this event on nine previous occasions.
With 14-year-old Cameron Young not entered in the event, the leading contenders are familiar group of 15-year-olds. Leading the pack is Theo Humphrey of Greenwich, Conn., who recently finished tied for fifth at the Carter Cup at Baltusrol after holding the first-round lead with a 69 on Baltusrol’s Upper Course. He will tee off at 7:30 a.m. against James Wolfangel of Flemington, N.J., in the first match of the day on Thursday, August 11.
Another player looking to make a run at Rumson is Kyle Brey of Farmingdale, N.Y. Brey was a member of the victorious MGA squad that won the Williamson Cup this past Monday at Columbia Country Club in Chevy Chase, Md. Brey will look to add an individual MGA title next to his team win that came just outside of our nation’s capital.
A semifinalist in this event last year, Erick Alonso of Haworth, N.J., looks to build upon his strong 2010 showing, as he fell to eventual winner Matt Lowe. Another returning semifinalist is Kieran Purcell of Nutley, N.J., who can win his first MGA event in his home state.
