ELMSFORD, N.Y. (June 21, 2021) — The junior golf schedule ramps up this month as qualifying for the 104th Met Junior Championship Sponsored by MetLife and the 53rd MGA/MetLife Boys Championship takes place between June 21 and June 30.

The concurrent qualifying will be conducted at three sites throughout the Met Area this year, with juniors looking to advance to The Tuxedo Club in Tuxedo Park, N.Y., July 12-14 for the nation’s oldest junior championship and those not yet 16 aiming to earn a seed in the match play bracket at Gardiner’s Bay Country Club on Shelter Island, July 22-23.

June 21 – Smithtown Landing Country Club, Smithtown, N.Y.
Qualifying Positions: Junior: 10 & ties | Boys: 5 & 2 alternates
Andrew Chen of Whitestone, N.Y., who won the Long Island Junior Championship in the same event, led the field, shooting an even-par 72 to advance to the Met Junior. Chen was followed by Andrew Stickel of Greenwich, Conn., and Colin McCullagh of Locust Valley, N.Y., who both shot 1-over 73s on the day. In all, 12 qualifiers advanced with scores of 4-over 76 or better. Sean Shallat of Dix Hills, N.Y., captured the Long Island Boys title while earning his spot in the MGA Boys Championship, leading five qualifiers to Gardiner’s Bay.

Qualifying Positions: Junior 8 & ties | Boys: 4 & 2 alternates
Lucas Rizo-Patron of Rye, N.Y., was the low scorer for both the Met Junior Championship qualifier and the 53rd MGA/ MetLife Boys Championship qualifier. The 14-year-old made four birdies to finish the round at 2-under 67. Colin Summers of Westfield, N.J., and Devon Kim of Oakland Gardens, N.Y., both shot even-par 69 to stand among the nine total players advancing to The Tuxedo Club for the Met Junior Championship. Mark Yan of Newburg, N.Y., also qualified for the MetLife Boys Championship shooting 3-over 72, while two others also advanced to play at Gardiner’s Bay Country Club.

Qualifying Positions: Junior 14 & ties | Boys: 5 & 2 alternates
Tyler Donnellan was the low scorer of the Met Junior Championship qualifier played at Westchester Hills Golf Club, using six birdies to finish the round at 5-under 65. Tied for second were Harrison Blech and Matt Simon both shooting 1-under 69. Along with those three, there were 11 more juniors that qualified to play at The Tuxedo Club. For the MGA/MetLife Boys Championship qualifier, Harrison Browne qualified for the Met Junior Championship, but also led the Boys group shooting 3-over 73. Along with Browne, there were four additional qualifiers that advanced to match play at Gardiner’s Bay Country Club.
