ELMSFORD, N.Y. (June 18, 2026) — After years of anticipation, the 126th U.S. Open Championship is underway at Shinnecock Hills Golf Club in Southampton, N.Y. The championship marks the 76th USGA event in the state of New York and the 21st U.S. Open in the state. Shinnecock owns one of the deepest histories, standing as the lone club to host the U.S. Open in three different centuries as it welcomes its sixth U.S. Open.

On top of the excitement of having a U.S. Open in the region, the field also contains an especially strong local contingent:
Max Greyserman, Short Hills, N.J. – Greyserman currently ranks No. 68 in the Official World Golf Ranking and has logged three top-20 finishes this year, including a tie for 14th in the PGA Championship at Aronimink and a tie for ninth at the Byron Nelson. The Duke grad secured his spot at Shinnecock through final qualifying at Century and Purchase.
Chris Gotterup, Little Silver, N.J. – With four career PGA TOUR wins, Gotterup ranks 11th in the world. Two of his wins came this year in the Sony Open in Hawaii and the Waste Management Phoenix Open. The 2019 Met Amateur champion and MGA Player of the Year has also added two additional top-10s this year, including a tie for 10th at the PGA Championship.
James Nicholas, Scarsdale, N.Y. – Nicholas notched his first Korn Ferry Tour win in February at the Astara Golf Championship, and has added three more top-25 finishes this year. The 2017 MGA Player of the Year ranks No. 15 on the Korn Ferry’s points list as he aims to secure his PGA TOUR card at year’s end. Nicholas also qualified through the MGA-conducted final qualifier at Century and Purchas.
Brandon Wu, Scarsdale, N.Y. – Wu has logged one top-25 finish on the Korn Ferry Tour this season and advanced to the U.S. Open through final qualifying in North Carolina behind rounds of 64-65. Wu grew up in Scarsdale and attended Deerfield Academy in Massachusetts before playing collegiately at Stanford University.
Cameron Young, Scarborough, N.Y. – Young’s first career win last fall propelled him to a stellar showing at the Ryder Cup, from which the 2015 MGA Player of the Year built momentum for the 2026 season. Young has earned six top-10 finishes on the PGA TOUR this year, with his second and third career wins at The Players Championship and the Cadillac Championship, lifting him to the No. 3 player in the world.
