Pennington wins WMGA/MGA Public Links Championship
OSSINING, N.Y. (July 13, 2017) – Four birdies led Amber Pennington of Rondout to victory in the 20th WMGA/MGA Women’s Public Links Championship on Thursday at Hudson Hills Golf Course. Pennington, just 14 years old, remained steady through the day, carding nine-hole scores of 36-38 en route to her 3-over 74 and a five-shot victory.

Birdies on Nos. 2, 5 and 7 helped Pennington get off to a blistering start. Despite finding trouble on the challenging par-four 8th and carding a triple-bogey, Pennington settled her game turning to the inward nine as she made four-straight pars. She also closed her round on a high note, draining a 30-foot birdie putt on the par-four 18th to seal the victory.
Pennington has qualified for the New York State Public High School Athletic Association Tournament each of the last two years, claiming the Section 9 Girls Golf Championship in 2016 and finishing second this season.
Sydney Nethercott of Met PGA Junior Golf Club and Melanie Kleiner of Villa Roma Country Club tied for second, carding 8-over 79s. Both carded a pair of birdies on the day.
Hudson Hills played to a par-71 at 5,209 yards.
