In the first match of the morning, Dylan Newman of Hollow Brook won 6 & 5 over Josh Goldenberg of Atlantic. Newman, the stroke play medalist, said he is in attack mode and ready for the next match, "I'm going to play the same way, keep the foot on the pedal," he claimed.

Newman will take on David Pastore of MGA eClub Westchester/Fairfield in the quarterfinal. Pastore won his match against NJ State Open champ Max Greyserman of Crestmont 4 & 2. Pastore's goal is to stay disciplined this afternoon, as he says that these greens are some of the firmest and fastest that he's ever played.

Ryan Snouffer of Panther Valley defeated Nick Desai of Baltusrol 4 & 3 this morning. Their match was close throughout the day, but Snouffer turned it on on the back nine, winning holes 12 through 14 to gain the advantage he needed to win.

Snouffer will meet Sam Bernstein of Century in the quarterfinals. Bernstein got off to a very hot start this morning, getting to 4 up over Tyler Cline of Tuxedo after just 4 holes. Although Cline tried to push back, Bernstein kept his momentum going to seal the deal on the 15th hole, winning 4 & 3.

Matt Lowe of Colonial Springs had the largest margin of victory today with his 6 & 5 win over Joe Blando  of Harbor Links. After yesterday's stroke play qualifying, Lowe claimed that he loved match play, which was evident by his play today. Last year, Lowe fell in the Round of the 16 at Stanwich when he was defeated by Sam Bernstein, who then lost in the quarterfinals.

Harrison Shih of Alpine, a semifinalst in the 2012 Met Am at Hollywood, advanced to the quarterfinals after winning 3 & 2 over Pieter Hartong of Stanwich. Shih will play Lowe for their quarterfinal match.

The last quarterfinal pairing will be Joe Saladino of Huntington against Steven Zychowski of Mendham. Saladino's morning match against Carter Cup winner Erick Alonso of Darlington was all square until the ninth hole until Saladino started to turn it on and began winning holes. He ended up defeating Alonso with a 4 & 3 win. Saladino's plan for the afternoon is to kep it simple, "The goal is to keep the ball in the fairways and make some more putts," he said.

Saladino's opponent, Zychowski was part of the only morning match to reach 18 holes. He held the lead throughout most of the match, but  Darin Goldstein of Noyac put up a good fight on the back nine. Zychowski won the 17th and 18th holes to finish 2 up to advance.
