Larkin and Lowe Lead Field at Ike Qualifier at St. George's
East Setauket, N.Y. (May 23, 2013) – 120 players were challenged by windy conditions today at a Sectional Qualifying Round at St. George’s Golf and Country Club in East Setauket, N.Y., for the 58th Ike Championship. Adam Larkin of MGA eClub – Long Island and Matt Lowe of Colonial Springs shared medalist honors and both carded scores of even par-70. Larkin, a rising senior on the Farmingdale State golf team carded three birdies to stay even today, earning his way to the championship round at Wykagyl Country Club in New Rochelle, beginning June 24. Lowe, a Farmingdale High School junior, was able to play consistently today in order to make par.
With wind acting as a major factor at the Long Island course today, it was difficult for players to record low scores. A total of 16 players qualified, making the cut of 5-over 75.
Stephen Shaffer of Bethpage State Park finished third with a score of 3-over 73. Six players had scores of 4-over 74: Todd Kozlowsky and Thomas Gallagher III, both playing at their home course today, Sean Keller of Bellport, Dennis Lynch of Nassau Players, Will Bernstein of Century, and John Yu of Bethpage State Park.
The remaining qualifying positions were claimed by Greg Stavrou of MGA eClub – Long Island, Kyle Burke of West Sayville, Steven Tarulli of Hempstead, Bradley Rock Jr. of Wheatley Hills, Dave Segot of Nassau Players, Mike Kildale of St. George’s, and Christopher Gabriele of Colonial Springs, all who shot 5-over 75.
